The fine luxuries of the Richemont Group present their novelties every year at the elegant SIHH clock in Geneva. These are the most beautiful watches of the SIHH 2014.
Caliber de Cartier Diver
A diving watch from Cartier: There was never before. At the Geneva Watchmaking Hall SIHH, Maison Cartierpresented the Caliber de Cartier Diver, a sporty adaptation of the men’s watch classic. The striking timer with a 42 millimeters large stainless steel or gold case is waterproof up to 300 meters. For better readability, even under difficult conditions, pointers and indices are coated with the fluorescent mass Superluminova. The bezel is rotatable on one side, the large sealing rings serve to withstand the high pressure ratios and temperature fluctuations.
Piaget Altiplano 38 mm 900P
The world’s flattest mechanical watch comes from Piaget. The Swiss watch brand is famous for its flat designs. The Altiplano 38 mm 900P, which was presented at the SIHH on the 140th birthday of the manufactory, has a housing height of 3.65 millimeters. Such a thin mechanical watch had never been before. This design is made possible by the fact that Piaget uses the steel case at the same time as the base plate of the watch movement. The 900P hand grip caliber was again placed around the dial so that all the components are about the same height. For the first time, Piaget set a record in the field of flat housings in 1960: the caliber 12P was the world’s flattest automatic movement at 2.3 millimeters.
Vacheron Constantin Malta Tourbillon Skeleton Open worked
The Furniture manufacture and the oldest watchmaker, Vacheron Constantin, still working continuously, removed as much material as possible from the Malta Tourbillon skeleton Openworked. Skeletizing is the name of this artistic discipline. This opens the view to the caliber. The bottom of sapphire glass is also transparent so that the clockwork can be viewed from both sides with a hand wheel. The material of the housing is platinum.
Luminor 1950 Left-Handed 3 Days Steel by Panerai
The manufactory Panerai did not make diving watches, especially for left- handers, but for Italian sailors. In order not to have to carry all instruments for the dive, such as a compass or depth gauge, on the left arm, one needed a clock for the right arm. At the SIHH, Panerai launched two of these “Left-Handed” dive watches. One of them, the 1950 Left-Handed 3 Days Steel, reminds in the form language to the historical Panerai copies. The transparent sapphire crystal case provides a clear view of the caliber P.3000 manufactured entirely by Officine Panerai. The clockwork of 160 components, has 21 jewels, two series-coupled spring houses and allows a reserve of three days
The Aquatimer Chonograph Expedition Charles Darwin of IWC
For the first time, the Swiss watch brand IWC built a watch with bronze housing. She was then presented at the Richemont watch salon: the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Expedition Charles Darwin”. An aluminum alloy has been added to the metal so that the 44 millimeter bronze housing is particularly resistant. The warm tone was also resumed at the luminescence on hands and indexes and forms a nice contrast to the black dial and bracelet. The diver watch is equipped with an automatic manufac- turer caliber 89365 and waterproof up to 300 meters.
The Platinum GMT from Greubel Forsey
Although the actual novelty of the latest GMT model of the watch brand Greubel Forsey is that the case is made of platinum. Nevertheless, at the SIHH in Geneva, the particular world-wide display of the timepiece attracted the attention: a small globe, which was admitted in a bulge in the dial, serves to read the world time. Even the predecessors of the GMT had this handy nail. The Watchmakers Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey did not give up on a Tourbillon. Accordingly, the current GMT model from platinum seems extravagant.
Clifton 1839 with flying Tourbillon from Balm & Mercier
The most striking model that the Swiss brand Balm & Mercier presented at this year’s SIHH in Geneva was the Clifton 1839 with flying Tourbillon according to writingles. In the shape language very simple, the circular opening on the dial reveals the view of the technical complication. The 45.5 millimeters very large case consists of 18 carat red gold. Inside the watch is a mechanical caliber with a manual lift. Through the sapphire glass bottom you can see the whole movement.
