San Carlos de Bariloche is not without reason called the Argentine or South American Switzerland. Firstly, thanks to the amazing beauty of lakes and forests, the purity and transparency of the air, secondly, there is a ski resort here, and, thirdly, chocolate is produced here.
The central city of the Bariloche region, located at an altitude of 790 m above sea level, has always been a prestigious resort for the Argentine elite. Today it is the main destination for those wishing to explore the land of lakes. This is a real paradise for those who are fond of fishing and hunting, who love to ride horses and conquer mountain peaks, play golf and just relax, enjoying the mountain scenery.
From Bariloche you can go to the Nahuel Huapi National Park. The distance to be overcome in about 8 hours is about 300 km. On the way, stops are repeatedly made at viewing platforms, in small villages or tiny towns. As a rule, the main excursion program starts in the morning, after travelers have a little rest from the move. First, take the funicular to the top of the mountain. Next on the program is a cruise on Lake Nahuel Huapi on a catamaran, the path will lead to the Los Arrayanes National Park, which is unique in that it has preserved a myrtle forest. Not individual trees that can be found in other countries, but a whole grove on 12 hectares.
The surroundings of Bariloche are also great for any kind of recreation – you can climb the slopes of the three-headed extinct volcano Tronador, visit the resort town of Villa La Angostura, the Llao Llao peninsula, the suspension bridge 34 km from Intendencia, the Cerro Lopez ridge and the Andino shelter. Around Bariloche there is a dense network of winter resorts and mountain rest houses of various types, where there are all conditions for recreation.
19 km from San Carlos de Bariloche at an altitude of 2390 m above sea level is the Cerro Caderal ski resort, considered one of the very first such resorts in Latin America and one of the most modernly equipped on the entire continent. The Cerro Catedral has a hands-free system that allows skiers to access the ski lifts without taking their passes out of their pocket or backpack: all data is automatically read by the radio frequency system. In the resort: 53 slopes of all types of difficulty, 40 ski lifts, shopping center, pubs, discos, restaurants, equipment rental, ski school, kindergarten, snow park with a freestyle and snowboarding area. In addition to the developed infrastructure, the resort boasts truly unforgettable landscapes. The peaks of the Cerro Catedral resemble the graceful spiers of a Gothic temple.
The local winter is characterized by a dry climate with southeasterly winds and air temperatures ranging from -2°C to -12°C.
