One of the most visited attractions in California is Disneyland Resort. It consists of two parks, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park, as well as three hotels and a shopping, dining, and entertainment complex known as Downtown Disney.
Both parks are divided into different themes, Disneyland Park is divided into a total of eight so-called countries, each of which houses several attractions. The following areas can be found here: Main Street USA, Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Critter Country, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Mickey’s Toontown and Tomorrowland.
But it’s constantly expanding because, as Walt Disney himself once said, “Disneyland will never be finished. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination in the world.”

Areas in Disneyland Park

In addition to the different areas, there are several shows every day, such as Mickey’s Soundational Parade, which is particularly popular. In addition, various events take place here depending on the season and on special days. In the evening, the whole thing is crowned with the famous fireworks.

Main Street USA
The central part of Main Street, USA represents the center of an early 20th century Midwestern provincial town with many Victorian structures. It was modeled after Walt Disney’s hometown of Marceline, Missouri and then Fort Collins create. Here you will find few rides, as both the main entrance and exit, many shops and restaurants are located here.

New Orleans Square
Here, the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, is recreated in the 19th century.

Frontierland
Visit the 19th Century American West with Rivers of America, Big Thunder Mountain and many exciting rides.
The attractions include: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad a roller coaster, Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition with shooting galleries from the Old West, Mark Twain Riverboat a steam paddle boat, Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island play area and Sailing Ship Columbia a three-masted sailing ship.
Critter Country
The highlight for all small children is the “Tierland” with its animal attractions such as Winnie the Pooh, many forest birds and a few popular rides.
Here you will find the following attractions: Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes a canoe ride, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh an indoor ride and the Splash Mountain water ride.
Fantasyland
In Fantasyland you will mainly find many attractions that are especially suitable for smaller children.

Mickey’s Toontown
Mickey’s Toontown hosts attractions for the youngest visitors. It was modeled after the cartoon town “Toontown” in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Tomorrowland
In the land of the future, visitors can take part in adventures that show the living blueprint of the future. Science fiction visions of space and the future combined with rides and cinematic attractions.

Areas in Disney California Adventure
Disney California Adventure is the sister theme park which opened in February 2001. Just like Disneyland, this amusement park is divided into different themed areas.
The highlight here is the Pixar Play Parade with characters from The Incredibles, Toy Story, Ratatouille, A Bug’s Life, Finding Nemo and Monsters etc. The parade takes place mostly every day in the late afternoon and travels along the parade route from Hollywood Land to Paradise Pier.
It also hosts a nightly show called World of Color in the park’s Paradise Pier area, a spectacular water and light show.

Buena Vista Street
Main entrance and exit of Disney California Adventure Park with many shops and restaurants. The whole is built in missionary and art deco style.

Grizzly Peak
The Northern California wilderness is represented here. The highlight is Grizzly Peak, a mountain shaped like a grizzly bear.

Pacific Wharf
An area modeled after Northern California, with views of Monterey and San Francisco.

Paradise Pier
The Paradise Pier is the largest area in the park. It depicts a seaside amusement park from the early 20th century.

Hollywood Land
Located east of Buena Vista Street, this area is a recreation of a Hollywood street and studio district.

“a bug’s land”
Based on the film A Bug’s Life, it depicts the world from a bug’s point of view. This area is particularly suitable for small children.

Cars Land
A faithful recreation of Radiator Springs from the Pixar film Cars.
Local attractions include Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, and Radiator Spins Racers.
Out and about at Disney Resorts
Unlike the Walt Disney World Resort, all areas of the Disneyland Resort are within walking distance. The resort also offers transportation on the Disneyland Monorail. It operates between Tomorrowland Station, Disneyland Park and Downtown Disney Station. If you have a ticket to Disneyland Park, you can ride the monorail at any time.
Hotel im Disneyland Resort
A number of hotels and restaurants were built over time. All three major hotels are located at the west end of Downtown Disney.
Disneyland Hotel was Jack Wrather’s first original hotel, opening on October 5, 1955 and acquired by Disney in 1988.
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, opened on January 2, 2001.
Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel has since been renamed Disney California Adventure and reopened in 2000.
A fourth hotel was announced in 2016. However, the opening is not planned until 2021.
History of Disneyland Resort
The Disneyland Resort was developed by Walt Disney in the 1950s. But it was to be another five years before it was opened to the first guests. When it opened, the property consisted of Disneyland, its 100-acre parking lot, and the Disneyland Hotel, which Disney’s business partner Jack Wrather owns and then operated.
After the Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, which opened at the same time, had such a success. Additional land was purchased in California to allow Disneyland Resort to continue growing. In order to get money for the expansion, the famous Disneyland television show was created in the 1950s. Because it was already determined during the planning that the Disneyland amusement park needed more space. In addition, a new freeway connection to Los Angeles was built, which ensured the accessibility of the park.
During the expansion, the property was renamed Disneyland Resort to encompass the entire complex. The original Disneyland Park theme park retained its name. Disneyland Hotel from Wrather Company and Pan Pacific Hotel from Tokyu Group were acquired and renamed Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. Another hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, a second theme park called Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney’s shopping, dining and entertainment area were added over time.
The model for the amusement park was the “Mickey Mouse Park”, which was then in Burbank. When looking for a suitable location to build, the decision was made to go back and forth in Anaheim. In those early days, Southern California’s major population centers were even further away, so it was decided to add a hotel to stay overnight.
The City of Anaheim renovated the Disneyland area and named it the Anaheim Resort. Surrounding streets were widened, repaved and landscaped. Appropriate neon signs were installed.
Despite some mishaps after it opened, Disneyland has been a huge success and is now one of the most popular attractions for families with children vacationing in California.
Downtown Disney
At the west end of the entrance plaza is Downtown Disney, the shopping and entertainment district. Downtown Disney, an outdoor retail, dining and entertainment district between the Disneyland Resort Theme Park Entrance Promenade and the Disneyland Hotel.
Tickets Disneyland in Kalifornien
A visit to Disneyland is not cheap. Tickets are sold in different variants: The basic ticket is the single-day theme park ticket, which allows access to one of the two parks for a whole day. In contrast, the 1-Day Park Hopper allows you to see both parks on the same day and switch back and forth between the parks. You can find more tickets and information on current prices here.
Directions to Disneyland in Anaheim – California
The easiest way is to drive to Disneyland Resort. Many visitors drive from San Diego, Las Vegas and San Francisco. Sufficient parking spaces are available for both day visitors and hotel guests.
Disneyland Resort is bounded by Katella Avenue on the south, Ball Road on the north, Walnut Street on the west, Harbor Boulevard on the east, and the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) on the northeast corner. The Anaheim Convention Center is south of the resort across Katella Avenue.
Public transportation such as Orange County and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is also a great way to get to the amusement park.
If you are taking the train to Anaheim, it is a good idea to take a taxi to the amusement park.
